What is a Typical Day of a Guided fishing trip on Lake Sakakawea in the Spring and Summer?

A normal day of walleye fishing in the summer, we launch from Parshall Bay or the New Town Marina on Lake Sakakawea. We usually focus on the Van Hook Arm and the New Town river stretches of the lake during the summer months, as that region is hard to beat in recent years. Lake Sakakawea does change often, including water levels and flow from the Missouri River. This can come into play when it comes to focusing on one area over another.

We do spend some time on the east end of Lake Sakakawea as well, with Garrison Bay our normal target. Those that know that bay know it’s literally it’s own ecosystem almost in the fact that the fish are always there in abundance.

The types of fishing we do in the summer is usually a mixture of pulling live bait, trolling crankbaits, and pitching jigs. We of course can tailor your day of fishing if you prefer certain methods over another, but we usually choose these tactics for a reason during certain times of the year.

Lake Sakakawea Fishing Must-Have's...

Clients should bring warm clothes in layers. It’s not unusual for a cool morning and a HOT afternoon so try to be prepared for both. Please also bring your own food & drink of choice for the day. You will also need a North Dakota fishing license and some anticipation for a good time!

We supply all the bait, tackle, and fishing equipment needed for the day. We also clean all the fish from the day for our clients.

Both of our Lake Sakakawea fishing guides run 20-ft Deep V boats. A Yarcraft 210 as well as a Nitro zv20.

If weather forces a cancelation. We refund all deposits. 

And yes, we have more than walleye here on Lake Sakakawea!  We also have giant northern pike and quietly one of the better smallmouth bass fisheries in the Midwest.  Smallies aren't actively targeted up here, giving bass anglers a field day!
